Our Story

At Lys and Bloom, we believe that luxury home fragrance should do good for your body as well as smell amazing for your home!

This is why we only ever use natural soy wax, clean cotton and wood wicks, and luxury IRFA certified oils free from parabens, phthalates or endocrine disruptors. No hidden carcinogens or toxins, because our bodies and homes deserve better 🫶

All our homeware is hand crafted using eco friendly Jesmonite, designed to be loved and used again and again (we even have our own unique Refillable Candle Collection, because did you know most glass candle jars cannot be recycled and end up in landfill? Not ours!).

We pride ourselves in reducing our carbon footprint, not only through eco conscious materials and ingredients but also by using recyclable packaging.

The same goes for any of our skin and body care products,  we will only ever use natural, vegan and cruelty free ingredients, created with purpose to nourish your skin and boost your mood 🤍

At Lys and Bloom, we are proud to be encouraging others to make self care a priority. Life has taught us that you cannot burn the candle at both ends (no pun intended) without your body keeping the score. Years of battling a variety of hormonal and auto immune disorders lead to an awareness of the importance of what we put in and around our bodies. The cleaner, calmer and healthier our environment around us, the healthier our bodies and minds will be. 

Meet our maker, Lucy...

"Lys and Bloom was born out of necessity. After years of battling auto-immune diseases, major hormonal issues, and decades of anxiety, I had tried every trick in the book to help me relax. But it wasn't enough. It wasn't until I began to prioritise my own self care, creating daily rituals to ensure I stuck to keeping self care a priority (I've always been one to neglect my own needs and put everyone else's first) that I actually began to notice a change. 

I became increasingly aware of the factors in my life which were negatively impacting on my health and wellbeing, from the constant self neglect, to the environment I was creating for my body, from the products I was applying to my skin to the air I was breathing. 

Whilst recovering from major surgery, I signed up for a beauty box subscription (a little treat for me). I came across what I thought was a 'clean' aromatherapy product, and loved it, but when I looked deeper into the ingredients I was shocked to find that it was full of harsh chemicals (I won't mention the brand but it was a very high end popular brand!). This sent me on the hunt for some 'healthier' beauty treats and candles. Specifically ones to help support my hormones . But all that came up when I Google searched 'menopause candle' (I had a total hysterectomy in my 30s so was in full surgical menopause) were ones joking about hot flushes, ones full of harsh chemicals, or ones claiming to be 'natural'.

This was how Lys and Bloom was born. As I recovered from surgery, I decided that if I couldn't find the types of candles for self care I wanted, I would have a go and make my own! I soon became addicted, not only to the candles I made (because they smell amazing), but also the process of making candles and also creating beautiful homeware from Jesmonite. 

I had already made many 'cleaner' swaps in my life and beauty products before, but before my surgery, I had never realised the chemicals that went into candles and the impact they can have on our health. From the petrochemicals, phthalates, terpenes to formaldehyde, I was without realising filling my home and body with toxins and chemicals. This drove me to want to create Lys and Bloom (lys meaning light, not only the light from my candles but also signifying the relief from the hormonal issues and anxiety I battled for decades, and bloom for the plant based ingredients we use as well as the impact the self care rituals were having to enable me to be happier and healthier as a person)."
