Candle Care Instructions
Share
Each candle is hand poured in small batches using natural soy wax and finished with either a cotton or wooden wick. Following these simple care tips will help you enjoy a clean, safe, and long lasting burn.
Before You Light Your Candle
- Always place your candle on a stable, heat resistant surface.
- Keep candles away from draughts, flammable materials, children, and pets.
- Never leave a burning candle unattended.
- Identify whether your candle has a cotton wick or a wooden wick, as each requires slightly different care.
Caring for Cotton Wicks
- Trim the wick to approximately 5mm before every burn.
- This helps prevent smoking, mushrooming, and uneven burning.
- Remove any carbon build-up (“mushrooming”) before relighting.
Caring for Wooden Wicks
Wooden wicks burn differently from cotton wicks and create a gentle crackling effect.
- Before each burn, trim or snap away the charred wood so the wick is approximately 3–5mm high.
- Keep the wick free from loose burnt wood before lighting.
- If the flame goes out, allow the wax to cool slightly, trim away any charred wood, then relight.
- Wooden wicks may take a little longer to ignite. Hold the flame against the wick for several seconds until it catches.
Soy Pillar Candles
Soy pillar candles are designed to create a beautiful glowing effect as the outer walls remain standing while the centre melts.
- Burn your pillar candle on a heat resistant candle plate or dish to catch any melted wax.
- Allow the candle to burn for 2–3 hours at a time.
- Trim the wick before each burn (5mm for cotton, 3–5mm for wooden wicks).
- If the outer wall becomes too high, carefully fold a small section into the melted wax while the candle is warm (taking care not to touch the flame). This encourages an even burn.
- Avoid burning for more than 4 hours at a time.
Refillable Candles (Glass & Jesmonite)
Our refillable candles are designed to burn cleanly while allowing you to reuse your beautiful jar again and again
- On the first burn, allow the wax to melt almost all the way to the edge of the container. This usually takes 2–4 hours and helps prevent tunnelling.
- Trim the wick before every burn (5mm for cotton wicks, 3–5mm for wooden wicks).
- Do not burn for longer than 4 hours at a time.
- Stop burning when approximately 10mm (½ inch) of wax remains at the bottom of the container.
- Allow the candle to cool completely before moving it.
- Keep the wax free from wick trimmings, burnt wood, matches, and other debris.
Refilling Your Vessel
Once your candle has finished burning:
- Allow any remaining wax to cool completely.
- Remove leftover wax and the wick tab.
- Clean the vessel with warm, soapy water.
- Dry thoroughly before inserting your new refill.
Your glass and Jesmonite vessels are designed to be enjoyed again and again.
Wax Melts
Our soy wax melts are designed to fragrance your home without a flame on the wax itself.
- Use only in a suitable wax warmer.
- Do not add water.
- Do not overfill your burner.
- Never move the burner while the wax is melted.
- Allow the wax to cool completely before removing or changing it.
- Keep away from children and pets.
Candle Safety
For your safety, always remember:
- Never leave a burning candle unattended.
- Keep burning candles away from anything that can catch fire.
- Burn candles out of reach of children and pets.
- Keep candles at least 10cm apart when burning multiple candles.
- Extinguish your candle if the flame becomes too large, flickers excessively, or smokes.
- Never use water to extinguish a candle.
A Note About Natural Soy Wax
Soy wax is a natural product, so slight frosting, small surface imperfections, or colour variations are completely normal. These are signs of the natural wax and do not affect the quality, fragrance, or performance of your candle.
Thank you for supporting our small business. We hope our handmade candles bring warmth, relaxation, and beautiful fragrance to your home.
The First Burn Matters
For an even, long lasting candle:
Allow the wax to melt to the edges of the jar on the first burn (usually 2–3 hours).
Avoid burning for more than 4 hours at a time.
Trim the wick before each relight to maintain a clean, steady flame.
Proper care ensures a smooth wax pool and optimal fragrance performance throughout the life of your candle.
